About SaturdayOff

Built by a parkrunner, for parkrunners

SaturdayOff is a free community resource. No adverts, no subscriptions, no data selling. Just honest information to help you make the most of your Saturday morning.

Why I built this

SaturdayOff started after a last-minute parkrun cancellation I knew nothing about. At the time I did not have a Facebook account, and the official parkrun app did not notify me. I arrived at the start line to find it cancelled. No heads-up, no email, just a sign on the gate.

That was the moment. I built SaturdayOff to solve that problem, a simple cancellation tracker that actually tells you in advance. It has grown into a course guide resource because the same frustration applies to arriving underprepared. Wrong shoes, no idea about the hills, no clue where to park.

The whole thing is free because it should be. parkrun is free. The information runners share with each other should be free too.

My parkrun background

I have been parkrunning since 2018. My PB is 26:38, set at Birchall Playing Fields. I have run at 13 different locations across the UK, which is where most of the course guides on this site come from.

Courses I have run personally, which form the basis of the guides on this site:

Whinlatter Forest was contributed by Charlie Whitmore, a regular Whinlatter runner who submitted the guide and photos through our community submission form.

How the guides are written

Every guide on this site is written from personal experience, community submissions, or both. We do not copy from the official parkrun pages and we do not publish AI-generated content passed off as first-hand knowledge. If a guide says the hill feels longer on the second lap, that is because someone ran it and felt that.

Where a guide comes from a community submission, it is credited to the submitter. Where the information comes from my own experience, it is written in my voice.

We link to the official parkrun page for course records and average finish times because that data changes every week. We are not trying to replace parkrun. We are trying to add the useful context that the official pages do not include.

Professional background

Outside of SaturdayOff, I work in marketing and strategy. SaturdayOff is a side project, not a commercial venture.

I built it because I wanted it to exist. I hope it keeps growing through the community of runners who find it useful and contribute to it.
