The honest version
Crewe parkrun takes place at Queens Park, a beautiful Victorian park in Crewe with manicured gardens, a lake, bandstand and crazy golf. The course is just over three laps on tarmac paths through the park, all on hard surface with some elevation that makes it more interesting than a flat multi-looper.
The park is genuinely attractive with well-tended shrubbery, sections around the lake, and views across the ornamental gardens. Despite being a multi-loop course it does not feel repetitive. The Lakeside Café is an institution for post-run coffee.
The start
The start is at Queens Park, off Victoria Avenue. Parking is available at Victoria Park car park on Victoria Avenue, about a 5-minute walk. The course is tarmac throughout. Some sections are narrow so patience when lapping or being lapped helps. Staying left and communicating when passing makes it more comfortable for everyone.
Kilometre by kilometre
- Lap 1First loop, finding your rhythm on the tarmac
Well-surfaced tarmac path throughout. The park is compact enough that you get a feel for the course quickly. Some sections alongside the lake, others through the garden areas. A gentle rolling profile with nothing severe.
- Lap 2The fast lap
By the second loop you know the path and can commit to your pace. The narrow sections mean you need to be alert to other runners, particularly where the path squeezes between garden features. Step to the left and let faster runners through.
- Lap 3+Final loops to the finish
The third full lap plus the short additional section to the finish. The finish is by the bandstand at the centre of the park, which feels satisfying after multiple loops of the perimeter.
Elevation profile: approximately 40m total gain

Shoe recommendation by conditions
Road shoes throughout. The course is entirely tarmac and the surfaces are good quality year round. No trail sections whatsoever.
Road shoes in the wet too. The tarmac drains well and puddles are the main hazard rather than mud. You noted puddles can develop in wet weather so watch your footing on standing water sections.
Getting there and parking
Parking is available at Queens Park. The entrance is on Victoria Avenue. From Crewe station, the park is around 1.8 miles walk, approximately 35 minutes. Bus services on Victoria Avenue stop near the park entrance.
The Lakeside Café opens early and is open before and after the run. It has decking overlooking the crazy golf and is a popular post-run spot. Toilets are available in the park.
Practicalities
Crewe parkrun has a particularly good summer atmosphere when the park is at its best. The gardens are well maintained and the parkrun community here is established and welcoming.
The narrow sections of the path are the main thing to manage, particularly if the field is large. Be aware of runners approaching from behind, especially on your second and third loops when faster runners may be finishing their run.
Is it a good PB course?
Good, especially in summer. The course has a little elevation but nothing significant, and the consistent tarmac surface is fast. The narrow path sections are the main limiting factor for a PB attempt as they can slow you during lapping.
On a day with a moderate field size, the narrow sections clear quickly and you can find clean running. In summer conditions with good weather, this is a genuinely fast and enjoyable parkrun.
