The honest version
Elder Park is one of Scotland's fastest parkruns. Zero elevation, entirely tarmac, with an average finish time of 27:47 across 28,752 finishes. If you are looking for a PB venue in Glasgow, this is probably your best option.
The course attracts a strong regular field of fast runners which can be motivating if you are pushing for a time, though it does mean the paths can feel busy in the early stages. The start is wide and there is enough room to find your space before the course narrows slightly further in.
One thing to be aware of: the finish is not at the same point as the start, and it is easy to lose track of your laps when the terrain is flat and repetitive. Keep count yourself. Plenty of runners have pulled up a lap early thinking they were done.
The route
The start is to the right as you come through the main Govan Road gates, near the war memorial. The course runs clockwise for just short of four laps on the permanent tarmac paths.
-
StartGovan Road gates, near the war memorial
Enter via the main gates on Govan Road and bear right. The start line is just inside the park. There is a wide open area here which gives everyone room to spread out.
-
Lap 1Perimeter lap, clockwise
The first lap follows the perimeter path all the way around the park. Entirely flat tarmac throughout. A couple of spots where tree roots have pushed up under the surface and caused slight unevenness at the path edges, but nothing that requires attention at normal pace.
-
Laps 2 to 4Modified laps cutting through the park
From the second crossing of the start line, turn right and take the path towards the middle of the park, then left towards the library, then right back onto the perimeter route. This continues for the remaining laps. The finish is near the pond on lap four.
-
FinishNear the pond, not at the start
The finish line is at the pond end of the park, a different location to the start. If you have left belongings at the start line, account for the walk back.

Shoe recommendation by conditions
Road shoes are ideal. The course is entirely tarmac with zero trail sections. A flat, fast road shoe will serve you well here.
Road shoes are still fine. The only hazard in wet weather is puddles, which are easily avoided. There is no mud or off-road section where grip becomes important.
Getting there and parking
The park is at Langlands Road, Glasgow, G51 3TZ. Free on-street parking is available on Govan Road, Crossloan Road and Langlands Road around the perimeter of the park.
By underground: Govan underground station is nearby. By bus: services 3, X19 and 34 run to Govan bus station, then a ten minute walk along Govan Road towards the Clyde Tunnel.
Toilets
There are no public toilets inside the park. Toilets are available in St Constantine's Church before the event starts. Factor in the walk there and back so you do not miss the 9:30am start. The church is on Uist Street, a five minute walk from the park.
After the run
The regular post-run meetup is at St Constantine's Church Hall on Uist Street, a five minute walk from the park. It opens from 9am so the coffee is ready when you finish. It is a well-attended gathering and a good place to meet the regular crowd.
Is it good for a PB?
Yes. Elder Park is one of the strongest PB venues in Scotland. Completely flat, entirely tarmac, average finish time of 27:47. The fast regular field also helps if you need someone to pace off. Come in road shoes, know your laps, and go for it.
